Where are my recipes stored?
On your phone. Kitchive has no accounts and keeps no copy of your recipes on its servers. If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings (part of Kitchive Pro), a copy lives in your own private iCloud as well — and nowhere else.
How do I back up or move to a new iPhone?
Settings → Export all recipes writes the text of every recipe — folders included, photos not — as one readable JSON file. Send it to the new phone (AirDrop or Files), install Kitchive, then Settings → Import recipes. To bring the photos too, use iCloud sync (Kitchive Pro): a new phone signed into the same Apple Account picks up recipes and photos by itself.
What leaves my phone when I import something?
A pasted link is opened by your phone, the way Safari would open it, and read there. If you send it to AI with Read the recipe, the text of the page — never the link itself — goes through Kitchive's server to OpenAI (or, if OpenAI is down, to OpenRouter and Google's Gemini), and Kitchive keeps no copy. Pasted text goes the same way when you tap Read the recipe; the screen says so under the box. A photograph of a page or a plate is sent as a smaller copy with its location data removed — and before the first one goes, Kitchive asks whether photos may be read with AI. Recipes you type in never reach Kitchive's server; with iCloud sync on they go to your own iCloud. The privacy policy lists every host the app ever contacts.
Can I stop shared links going to AI?
Yes. The first link you send to AI counts as a yes for links you share to Kitchive later, so those are read with AI as soon as they arrive. Settings → Privacy → Read shared links with AI turns that off: shared links are then read on your phone until you send a link to AI yourself again.
Can I import from Instagram, Facebook or Threads?
No. Kitchive doesn't import from them — a link to any of them is refused before anything leaves your phone. Links from recipe sites, TikTok and YouTube work, a photograph of a page or a plate works, and any recipe can be written in by hand.
How many AI imports are free?
Five, for the life of the install. After that, reading with AI is part of Kitchive Pro: thirty a day, on up to three devices at a time — a device that hasn't imported for a day frees its place for another. An import that fails never counts. Reading on the device — links, pasted text and photographed pages — stays free and unlimited with or without Pro.
Why did a photo of a dish say "today's dish photos used up"?
Recognising a dish from a plate is a separate, daily allowance: three a day free, thirty a day with Pro. It comes back at midnight (UTC). A photo of a written recipe, a link or pasted text still reads in the meantime.
The recipe it proposed for my dish looks off.
A recipe proposed from a photograph is a suggestion, marked as such throughout: the amounts are what the dish usually takes, not something anyone wrote down. Check them before you cook — and if the dish itself was misread, tap Choose a dish to pick another candidate or write it by hand.
How do I cancel Pro?
In Kitchive: Settings → Manage subscription (or iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Kitchive → Cancel Subscription). Everything you saved stays, photos included. Without Pro you can't add more than one photo to a recipe, AI imports go back to what is left of your free five, and iCloud sync pauses — the copy in your iCloud is kept.
I bought Pro but it isn't on.

Does the app collect usage statistics?
Only if you switch them on in Settings → Privacy — usage statistics and crash reports each have their own switch. They are anonymous, contain no recipe content, and are listed event by event in the privacy policy.
What does Kitchive's server keep about me?
No recipe, no link, no photo, and nothing with your name on it. To tell a genuine copy of the app from a script and to count your AI imports, it keeps a key id for this install and a few counters, and deletes them after 13 months unused. If you subscribe, it also keeps a salted one-way hash of your subscription's identifier — that is how Pro AI is held to three devices at a time — and deletes that record after 90 days unused. Deleting the app destroys the key these are filed under. The privacy policy describes every table, how long each is kept, and your rights.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Delete all data removes every recipe, photo, tag and folder, your meal plan and your shopping list — from this phone, and from iCloud (so from your other devices) if sync is on. Your settings and AI answers are kept; deleting the app removes those too.
Which languages does Kitchive speak?
English, German and Turkish, following your phone's language. Recipes read with AI come back in that language; a dish keeps its own name. The privacy policy and the terms are in all three.
